See Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda.

Some things in bike racing never change. Take any field of 80 riders and at the end you have 79 coming up with all kinds of reasons why dudes not as good as them placed higher or won. Hence the coulda, shoulda, woulda reference. Back to the OP this is another thing riders practice in practice races.
Not one in the same at all... if a sprinter is marking a kilo guy and he or his team shuts that kilo guy down every time he tries to get away that is not negative racing...unless they do that and there is a large break up the road that contains..lets say..a past state or national champion. Then its not just negative it's stupid and that is the type of scenario that Ex is referring too.
Negative racing (in the pejorative sense) is when you send a guy up the road then have all your teammates block the road and slow it down to a snails pace...
BTW guys like Ex and WR's usual excuse for getting beat? I wasn't fast enough today. For me this season has had me in the mix in the last 200m in most of my races..I've had two thirds a number of 4ths and a 5 and a 6..my excuse? The guys who beat me are better sprinters.
