Are bibs necessary? No.
Are bibs better/more comfortable? Probably.

Honestly, ride what you want, and find most comfortable. Keep in mind that not all bibs are the same (just like not all shorts are the same).

For me, I haven't worn a pair of shorts since the early 90s or so...It's all bibs, and until something better is invented, it will always be bibs.

For those who haven't tried them and are knocking them: wow, what an informed opinion you have?!
