Pedal and Brake Question

I'm just getting back into cycling. I purchased a hybrid in December just to get into shape and got bit by the bug so I went out and bought a road bike a couple of weeks agoand I'm loving it. I've already put over 150 miles in the new bike and I'm planning on a 50 mile ride this weekend. I had never tried clipless pedals so I tried a set of Crank Brothers Smartys on the hybrid. My road bike came with a set of WellGo SPD pedals but I initially put the Crank Bros on since I already had my shoes set up for them. Is there any advantage other that saving a few grams to go with the SPD's? Either one will work with my current shoes. Would I see in big difference in difficulty clipping, unclipping etc.?

The bike that I purchased has Tecktro Brakes. I have several comments in reviews etc. where people complained about the Tecktro Brakes. Is there a significant difference between the stopping power of them vs. 105 or Ultegra Brakes? The brakes on the road bike already feel considerably better that the brakes on my hybrid.
