The other day I looked down and added up what I had on. From shoes up to helmet it was $530, and much of the stuff was bought on big sales. Of course it can be done for much much less. In fact I know that the first $100 could get you a decent helmet, fine road pedals, and some nice road shoes like Diadora. (pssst - check Nashbar).

The next $100 will get you gloves, short, jersey.
Then so on fro the lists above.
