One reason to go SS is that if you can afford/budget it you can use a White Industries freewheel and hearing the "mad hornet" sound of the freewheel when not pedalling is damn near alone worth changing.
It's weirdly impressive, in an undesirable sort of way. I'm glad my freewheel doesn't do that.
