PDXaero, Your bike was the inspiration for really wanting the Command. I found one of those early thumbies at the co-op and tried to set it up like you did. I love how adaptable those old ones were.

For those who don't know, on that model of thumb shifter, you can set the cable housing stop independantly of the bar clamp. It makes them great for adapting to non-flat bars. The one I have is from an early Stumpy, so probably '82 or '83.
