Suntour Command shifters are great!!

I finally found a set last month and I have to say they're great. Maybe not dead perfect ergonomics, but pretty close. These were made for 6spd, but I pulled the bearings out to convert them to pure friction. They are moving an XTR rapid rise RD across a 9spd cassette. I've got them set up on a decidedly non-CV bike, but I thought someone might like this.

interesting setup. I finally got a pair a few months ago but have not had a chance to do anything with them. I was thinking of trying them on some moustache bars pointing down just ahead of the grip?

lets see the whole bike.

As I said, not CV. Nashbar touring frame/fork I got really, really cheap last winter. Actually I like it alot. It gets more miles than anything else and will probably continue to as we enter rainy season.

Bikes: many

They certainly look nicer than the original iteration.

Dylansbob, great looking bike, it has fenders and a rack I think it qualifies as an honary C&V

I see the price of those old cheap stem shifters going up. was this something you built or was it OEM?

I have a 7-speed set. I originally ran the front/friction lever for the rear, and the 7-speed indexing lever for the front, which worked better than it might sound as a coarse ratchet shifter (worked perfectly, in fact). Currently I'm running the Command ratchet shifter for the FD, and a modified Shimano rapid fire trigger shifter for the rear.

PDXaero, Your bike was the inspiration for really wanting the Command. I found one of those early thumbies at the co-op and tried to set it up like you did. I love how adaptable those old ones were.

For those who don't know, on that model of thumb shifter, you can set the cable housing stop independantly of the bar clamp. It makes them great for adapting to non-flat bars. The one I have is from an early Stumpy, so probably '82 or '83.

Bikes: Upright and Recumbent....too many to list, mostly Vintage.

I've been hunting on ebay for a set of command shifters for a while now...they sell for a pretty penny most of the time.
