She's picked out a shop that's basically between her house and campus -- Mr. Goodbike. One of the guys there appears to be a full time utility/commuter cyclist, doing his shopping and everything by bike, so his knowledge is just what she needs. She and I stopped by there while I visited last week, and I got her a new helmet, chain lock, and two-legged kickstand.
Also, rather than selling her new tubes right away, they sold us a Presta-Schrader adapter that made her bike's Dunlop valves usable with the Serfas smarthead pump she bought from them earlier. That way, she can keep those still-good tubes in the tires (they're Marathon Plus, too, so they should be good for a while) and can hold off on spending more for Schrader tubes.
