For the benefit of the non-Brits, this is a rather inadequate piece of plagiarism. Many years ago a Brit politician belittled an opponent by describing his attack as like being savaged by a dead sheep. So even had "gnawed" been spelled correctly, this would have been a rather lame and unattributed misquote. Fail.
