I have a 52/42/30 on my Interloc and a 50/34 on my ParkPre. The 50/34 uses a triple shifter for the front and I've been able to tune it just fine. I've found the biggest challenge is to have enough outboard movement of the FD to allow you to have the trim when on the big ring, without dropping the chain when you shift up to the big ring.

What I've found about my triple is that the 42-tooth middle ring covers a wide range on either side of my average speed but it doesn't give me much gearing for the steeper hills in the area, so the 30 tooth gets a fair amount of work on a normal ride. Unless you put a mountain cogset on the back with the compact, you might not be able to achieve the low gear you need to get you and the trailer up the hill.
