let me give another example as to the kind of faulty logic that comes from failure to actually see what is happening, but instead, following some nebulous advice given...
a few years ago on a spring training ride I was told by my training partner that I should keep in my small chainring.
I asked him why.
He replied that in the springtime one should ride in their small chainring because you could burn out or hurt your knees.
I told him that I was comfortable.
He continued to push the issue.
I noticed that he was in the 39/13.
I was in the 53/19.
I asked him what his cadence was, mentioning that mine was 100 (and knowing full well that his was slower)
He replied that he did not know.
you do the math.
