If you're leaving marks in aluminum with a buffing wheel, something is wrong. Either the wheel is too stiff or the compound you're using is too aggressive. There is no way my equipment will leave marks. The spiral-sewn cotton wheel is so soft that it will bend if you apply much pressure.

Comparing it to polishing steel in preparation for plating is just ridiculous.
