Have tried 2 different types of gloves and 1 type of mitten. The gloves were both Gordini. One is gore-tex, one isn't. W/wool liners they were ok, but they both became water soaked by the end of my commute(20 miles one way). Had much better performance w/t mittens. Gore-tex as well w/a liner. Much more waterproof and the liner soaks up hand sweat. The outer shell prevents water from reaching the inside of the mitten and causing wetness to contact the fingers. They're made by Marmot and I got them on closeout from
www.campmor.com The accessory I'm looking to find are waterproof pogies. I think they'd give an addtional layer of protection in the rain, snow or cold. Maybe pogies w/a couple of layers of Thompson's watersealer.
