I'm sorry for slow reply don't have much time at min to use laptop

Any way, the reason I think normal brakes like Avid Shorty Ultimate or something would be better is because when I was about 12 - 13 my bike had normal brakes and when I brake they was so sharp that I weant over the handlebars.

So any way, what I'm thinking is

Avid Shorty Ultimate
&
Shimano SLX

The thing is, is that a good idea and what one to use on front and what one on the back?
