Geez, Feb. 1 and we're having another snowstorm. We're literally out of room to put it. I'm hoping for a serious warming/melting trend so that I might get out for any ride other than my regular 7-mile RT commute this month.
Last summer, the longest ride I did was a 200K though the day ended up to be about 140 miles all told. What that taught me was that I could do a 300K as long as I paid attention to nutrition (and the point at which we went over 100 miles, we were going about 21 mph on a flat rail trail). It also taught me that my frequent 30-60 miles rides were good preparation, particularly when I do those rides without stopping (if I get hungry, I eat on the bike). That seemed impossible a few years ago, but I'm finding that the stamina (and knowledge that I can do it) accrues over time.
This summer, my bike friends and I are thinking about tracing the route from Ft. Ticonderoga, NY, to Dorchester Heights, Boston, MA, a key moment in the Revolutionary War. The question is whether we try to do it in one shot or make an overnight trip out of it.
