Your Trek 1000 came with wellgo clipless? That's pretty cool. I think your LBS likes you because I think the 1000 is supposed to come with clips and straps.

Try them. If they work OK keep them. I have wellgos and they have worked great.

All road pedals only clip on one side (as far as I know.)
