I too have been frustrated by the poor quality of the U-lock holders that come with Kryptonite, Planet Bike, all other locks for that matter. So I decided to make my own. The pictures are pretty self-explanatory. The basic design is based on 1"x1" aluminum angle stock, which Home Depot carries. This stuff can be cut with a carbide miter saw, or by hand. The clips that attach the Aluminum angle to the pannier rack are electrical cable clamps dipped in "liquid electrical tape" a couple times. The 5/8 holes were made on a drill press. A velcro tie and rubber bumpers are used to prevent clanging. The rack is a standard Bontrager.
