Bikes: '07 Diamondback Respones XE-based frankenbike (since deceased). '92 Schwinn Hurricane. '97 Trek 800.

I refuse to run platforms on a 26 HT, but on a 29er, I could be ok without clipless, depending on the trail. Some nicer alu platforms may be all you need. Take care of the bike, and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
