The double sided pedals are not good IMO. I can outride myself in flats in every situation except the hard "ups" (steep climbs). I do about 70/30. Clips/flats respectively. The problem with the 2 in 1 pedals is the weight balance is off so when you come out of the pedals the clips side is down, lots of fumbling. Decent commuter pedal but if i'm on the street I'm in clips anyways... Some of the advice your getting is pretty suspect. Here's my very suspect advice: Get some Shimano 520's and a cheapish pair of mountain bike clipless shoes. Try em out and compare to your current flat pedals. If you like the flats better get a nice set of flats (use search but tons of good ones out there) and some good flat shoes (5-10 impacts FTW). You need to make up your own mind.

Tons of pros and cons for both. Try search function. I suck at articulating my thoughts or I would list some, lol. Did I mention sweet bike???
