But my commute is only 3 miles one way. I don't even own a car, so I bike commute 100% of the time. I guess I just have to leave early and go for a 30+ mile ride every day on the way to work.

That's the main problem with competitions like this. If for this one you happen to live farther from work, you actually have an advantage. I used to live 13 miles from work, and ride that 5 days a week. Along with riding to the rock gym twice during the week, adding about 10 miles each of those days.

It would be a cool trick to have every month, a bike commuting competition, maybe more folks by a small amount, would ride and not drive to work.
