Plenty of time. Just get out and ride. Do a long ride each week. The definition of "long" will change as you get more fit. Variety. If the course is hilly, get used to riding some hills now & then. Bring plenty of water with you, and snacks for longer rides. Don't go crazy trying to improve 20 % each week ... take your time, take an easy week here & there... rest & recover, eat well ....
