I had a Manitou fork from the late 90s that came with rubber fork boots. They're suppose to protect the stanchions and fork seals but in my experience, they trapped fine dirt inside instead of keeping it out. Not good for the fork and it's a b1tch to keep clean if you ride in dusty conditions.

With the quality of today's fork seals, fork boots are unnecessary.
