Are fork boots worth a damn?

I'm thinking about buying these - https://lizardskins.com/store/product...ction/forkboot

Anyone use them? Are they worth it? I really just want to make sure my fork lasts as long as possible and I know all that dirt and junk that covers it at the end of a ride just can't be good for it. This is for a sid race btw.

Bikes: Plenty

If you remove and clean underneath them after every ride, you're good. Then again, if you clean the stanchion tubes after every ride, then you don't really need fork boots after all.

That's the impression I'm getting from reading further reviews online. Seems like they do more harm than good if you don't clean them after every ride. I already clean the stanchions after every ride anyway so I guess they're kinda pointless.

Wouldn't they also just soak up/rub off any oil/grease/lube that's on the tubes, therefore increasing wear? Looks iffy to me without having a pretty wide-spread recommendation.

Bikes: are fun to ride

I had a Manitou fork from the late 90s that came with rubber fork boots. They're suppose to protect the stanchions and fork seals but in my experience, they trapped fine dirt inside instead of keeping it out. Not good for the fork and it's a b1tch to keep clean if you ride in dusty conditions.

With the quality of today's fork seals, fork boots are unnecessary.
