Back in the 1970s, I raced on a 125m temporary indoor track that was set up in hockey arenas. It also had 55 degree banking in the turns, and at max speed a rider could pull 3g downforce in the turn in the sprinter's lane. The first time I rode that thing, my arms got really sore as my body got crushed in the turns, and I struggled to hold myself up. Doing hand sling madison exchanges was really wild, as controlling the bike in the turns with just one hand on the bars was nearly impossible. Because of this, the rules required that wheels had to have at least 32 spokes and maximum allowed gearing was 50 x 16.
