One problem with a hitch well behind the axle is that a heavy tongue weight can actually reduce front traction enough to make handling sketchy. Also, braking with a heavy load can put a lot of yaw into the bike... again making for sketchy handling. But... as long as you understand the system cannot handle as well as an axle mount hitch, it can be ridden well, even at slower speeds.
