I think my next step may be a trailer for my Big Dummy and I'm wondering about the hitch. Most trailers attach to the left side of the rear axle. This looks like it wouldn't work with the wide loaders on. What's the best way to set something like this up? I'm thinking you could modify it a bit and pull from the center rear of the frame.

Have Shop facilities to modify the rear of the frame?

A Bikes at Work trailer can add 6 feet of more length.

perhaps they will make something for you to help sell their trailer.

One problem with a hitch well behind the axle is that a heavy tongue weight can actually reduce front traction enough to make handling sketchy. Also, braking with a heavy load can put a lot of yaw into the bike... again making for sketchy handling. But... as long as you understand the system cannot handle as well as an axle mount hitch, it can be ridden well, even at slower speeds.

If you go with a Bikes at Work, tell them you are using a wideloader on an Xtracycle so they can make a slightly longer tongue for the trailer so it doesn't bang into the wideloader when making left turns. It tore up the cloth bottom on my wideloader.

I can weld something up if need be. My Big Dummy is electric and it weights about 100 pounds if not more. It should be able to handle a little tongue weight.

Surly sells trailers just for it ,,,don't they, look at BOB too, they anchor in a real good way.
I been looking at them Big Dummys, I ride a Long Haul Trucker, I sold all my other bikes and got one, AMEN, Praise God.(Old Baptist talk)

I would look real hard at a Big Dummy, and yes,,,there will be trailers, there will be all kinds of trailers.
Wreckers, Pole trailers, Service and Utility Trailers,,,,,and yes,, ICE CREAM TRAILERS,,,and ambulances to haul my sorry ass off when I crash....

I LIKE IT,,,you can haul lots of junk now,,,,,,My LHT has Panniers front and rear and a trunk bag and a frame bag and a BOB trailer,,and with all that filled up,, I guess thats a full plate for me.

The Surly trailers are not yet Big Dummy compatible, they say they are working on it. I'll be in line to get one.

I got my trailer this week. I paid about $100 shipped and I think it's pretty good for that. I read reveiws on it that said the fabric can rub the tires and wear through. I took my son for a ride and it took him 10 seconds to wear a hole in the fabric and his knee.
I added the lower horizontal tubes and the smaller upright ones to keep it from rubbing.

For the hitch I added a piece of tubing to go over the wide loader and made a bushing for in it out of a PVC pipe coupler. This way it will still work on any bike.

An ingenious attachment. I can see the profit potential in this gizmo. Have you thought of having it manufactured? If its reasonably priced, I do see a market for it!
