I love all those old Rosses showing up all of a sudden. Those models are pretty nice bikes; I believe they're pre-Kellogg, and one of Ross' first attempts at making a decent roadie. They ride well.
Today, just like last Saturday, I received a call from one of my contacts telling me there was a bike at a yard sale. Last week it was a pair of Specialized Allez, this week I was told it was an older Fuji, with an extra set of wheels. Not expecting much of anything, maybe an old s10s, I drove out to the west end and found that my contact hadn't read the name on the bike very closely. Instead of a Fuji, I found this:
It's a Puch Marco Polo, with a variety of components on it. The frame is main triangle Reynolds 531, dropouts are Shimano. You can see the remains of the frame sticker here:
Confusingly, there's a second frame material sticker on the downtube, but I believe that is for the stay and fork material:
The post is a 27.2, a very pretty Gipemme:
Wheelset is Normandy Luxe Competitions:
Drivetrain is a mix of a Sakae Ringyo Apex crank and some Suntour mechs. The front is reverse-rise:
Included in the deal, for fifty bucks total, were an eight speed shimano 600 freehub wheelset, laced to Sun Rims, a pair of Look pedals, and (not pictured) a cheap Bell Helmet, unused, that actually fits me.
50$ for the lot. A very good deal, and much nicer than the low-end Fuji I was expecting. One more weekend like this, and I'm going to have to book T-town in the fall. The bike is 52cm, so it is no where close to fitting me, so it's obvious swap fodder. I figure between this and the two Allez, I should be able to swap up to something pretty nice.
