I've read that helmets deteriorate over time.
The only test I've ever seen reported on possible helmet deterioration is on the BHSI website. They sent a 10 year old Bell Biker that had been well used and was yellowed from UV exposure to the Snell testing lab. The result was that it passed their tests and the results were essentially identical to those obtained from that model of helmet when it was brand new.
I'd keep the Metro, but then my newest helmet was bought in '93.
