That said, here in Taiwan you do see natives ride in long sleeves and long pants or tights over their shorts/bibs. They do NOT like the concept of suntan. As I understand it, a class mentality is at work. If you are darker, it must be because you do manual labor outside. Professional people or people who don't need to work would be indoors, and therefore not tanned; or so the old, but still held, thought process went.
