I've never found that to be true with myself.

Besides, even it was was, it would be worth the effort alone to have women ask: "can I feel your leg?"

You know, the bad thing about Dreams (wet or dry) is that you wake up and there is REALITY staring you in the face...

I do care! And cheers to you! Liberating is exactly the word. People waste too much time worrying about everyone else!

No, but I'm not sure why you would do this. Sun poisoning or overly sensitive skin prone to sunburn?

That said, here in Taiwan you do see natives ride in long sleeves and long pants or tights over their shorts/bibs. They do NOT like the concept of suntan. As I understand it, a class mentality is at work. If you are darker, it must be because you do manual labor outside. Professional people or people who don't need to work would be indoors, and therefore not tanned; or so the old, but still held, thought process went.

Yes, sun protection, and I was wondering if it would work like support hose...and, would it stay cool in the Texas heat.

Interesting. While your legs do sweat, they don't seem to sweat like your upper body. I don't know about all longer bibs, but the few that I have seen appear to have the same leg material all the way down. Therefore, I would expect them to breathe and pass moisture like the rest of the bibs. Another solution, but probably not as good, would be tights over regular shorts/bibs. It would be a inexpensive solution, but wouldn't breathe as well and you would have a double material thickness from the waist to the knees. A third solution would be very light weight legwarmers. A few years back in the Tour, David Millar had a problem with sun poisoning. I remember he wore thin arm warmers to block the sun on his forearms, but I don't remember what he did for his legs.

Anyway, just some food for thought...

Bashful...

I've been off the bike for the past 3 months due to health problems (bladder), but if I do return I've decided to go back to my old favorite cycling shorts - khaki shorts with a chamoi and pockets to put my wallet and keys, much more functional and you won't feel bashful wearing 'em - leave the "stretchy shorts", as I call them, for the peloton...

I had a pretty bad scrape on my knee a few months back and couldn't keep the dressing from sliding down as I pedaled. I tried one of my riding pants instead of my shorts and I must admit, it did keep the dressing from sliding down. The bad news is that they were hot as hell. I don't think that there is too much difference between Texas heat and Florida heat, but I can say that half way through the ride I had to stop and go home. Perspiration wasn't an issue with the pants as they wicked the sweat off pretty good. It was the black pants in that hot sun. Next day I used an elastic knee wrap and that held the dressing in place. I'll reserve my riding pants for cooler weather.

If I had to choose between wearing the long riding pants in the summer and sun screen, sun screen wins every time.

And you should know.

I can't wait for the obligatory Shimano ve Campy thread - or the "How carbon fiber will explode under your butt" thread. We do have to meter these things out otherwise it will get pretty boring around here.

Uh----------keep your Campy and Shimano. My last two bikes came with Sram shifter and derailers. They shift flawlessly. With normal shifts all you hear is the click of the twist grip. I think my cheap rugby shorts helps with the excellent shifts!!!!

2 points:
  1. Evidently people don't know that MANY jerseys are available COMPLETELY devoid of sponsor advertisements and are one color or one major color and one trim color
  2. How is wearing a team replica jersey while riding any different from wearing a Yankees jersey or cap while playing catch with your kid?

Given you live in NY, we'll forgive you for that poor choice of an example.

Originally from Toledo, which was (not sure about now) a Yankee Triple-A farm team. However, I haven't been a baseball fan in decades...

I'm not a competing swimmer and I wear a Speedo training suit. I do a lot of swimming, and I find that typical trunks are uncomfortable, the canvas wraps around your legs when you get out and freezes you, and they slow you down.

Unlike some, I wear the clothes that makes the activity/sport the most comfortable and efficient.
