Yes, sun protection, and I was wondering if it would work like support hose...and, would it stay cool in the Texas heat.
I had a pretty bad scrape on my knee a few months back and couldn't keep the dressing from sliding down as I pedaled. I tried one of my riding pants instead of my shorts and I must admit, it did keep the dressing from sliding down. The bad news is that they were hot as hell. I don't think that there is too much difference between Texas heat and Florida heat, but I can say that half way through the ride I had to stop and go home. Perspiration wasn't an issue with the pants as they wicked the sweat off pretty good. It was the black pants in that hot sun. Next day I used an elastic knee wrap and that held the dressing in place. I'll reserve my riding pants for cooler weather.
If I had to choose between wearing the long riding pants in the summer and sun screen, sun screen wins every time.
