Both are good bikes for the money. I looked at both of them before buying my Cannondale. The Giant was very comfortable and the Trek...well I did not get to ride but I would have been fine owning either one but I did not like the shops that sold them, hence my reason for buying a Cannondale. Both are spec'd pretty much the same so you really don't have much to quibble over there, especially if you want to "upgrade" to SRAM later on. I DO know that both the Trek and the Giant are 2 damned nice looking bikes, especially the Trek in orange, white and black.
