Yeah I ted shred with my feet off the pedals sometimes too, and while it's definitely not as safe as a brake, if you do it right, you can manage your speed pretty well and re-clip when you slow down. obviously if you're bombing long, steep hills, that might not be the best way to do things, but if you're on a slight decent down a straightaway, I don't see much harm in it.

Definitely just be more responsible about it in the future. And wear a helmet. And if you're riding a lot of hills, consider getting a/some brake(s).
