It will work.

V brakes require either special "long pull" drop levers, or a cable pull adaptor like the Travel Agent.

I just discovered Shimano no longer makes the parallelogram-mechanism brake it sold for many years. Now they sell a copy of the SD7, for twice the price. At least they used to sell you something for the extra cost, even if it was no more effective - now they just take your money.
