Hey, I resemble that remark !.

I was impressed that age was not as much a factor in this case as experience, tactics and conditioning. The conditioning part is a result of both Ned and Tinker being extremely gifted athletes that stayed in top shape. Granted that they can no longer compete at the same level as 20-30 yr olds on the Pro mt. biking level, but in this case - an 8 something mile steep hill climb, the age factor was somewhat minimized.

Possibly as well there were no (or fewer) world class road cycling athlete's at this years race, not sure though. As example, the record is held by Tom Danielson, who placed 11th in the 2011 TdF, and wasn't here at NH this year.

In any case, I can guarantee that all those 20, 30 and 40 yr old's that watched these two guys ride away up the hill, were totally aware that they got beat by a bunch of old farts. And for anybody at that age, someone 10 years older will always be an old fart.
