Kudos to them on the win.

On the issue of who shows up- that's kind of an involved question. On the one hand, the winner was about 5-1/2 minutes over the record, so you'd have to think that there's probably a lot of pro riders that could win the event if they were only there. But on the other hand, you don't hand out trophies based on what people could have done if only they had entered. I could go around saying "Well, I could have won that if I had entered, but I just didn't want to" and that just doesn't count for much.

On the Old Fart business- I've been tempted to try to define exactly which ages correspond to Codger, Coot, Fogey, and Geezer. Sort of like Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, only at the other end of the age scale. So if someone calls me an old coot, I can say "How dare you! I'm just now a codger, and have 3 years to go before 'coot'!"
