I sometimes combine the two: strap a pack rod and box of lures to the bike and hit the riverside bike paths, stopping where no one in a car, truck or SUV can follow. It's a great way to spend a day, and if the fish aren't co-operating you can always turn the outing into a bike ride.
And by the way, bigbadwulf, that's a lovely story. I have a hard time understanding hostility among outdoor users. A little tolerance, co-operation and plain friendliness can resolve a lot of conflicting needs.
