Accepting other's recreation

Went fishing the other day(after a bike ride...to keep this on topic ). This area is also popular with 4-wheelers. I know to some this seems an odd combination. Most fishermen want a nice, quiet place to fish.
I enjoy seeing people have fun. Whether that fun is fishing, riding a bicycle, or riding a 4-wheeler. Just seeing them smile while having fun was enough for me.
Oh, we also had a father and son enjoying their jet skis too. They looked to be having a blast.
One of the 4-wheeler's helped us find a nice, easy way back to the lake as we were towing a small trailer thru rutted trails/roads. The jet skiers asked us if they were bothering us while we fished.
A jeep came by and asked us how they were biting.
We were 2 middle-aged lilly-white guys. The 4 wheelers were black and tattoed and the jet skiers were Asian. The jeep driver was a young, white kid.
Who says we all can't get along.

Caught a nice ~ 5lb bass too.

Good looking fish. Way back when I used to love fishing for those things. Still have some gear in the shop. Given that, it is remarkable I settled as a youngster in the only state without bass.

They ride their 4 wheelers right to the water's edge? If so, man, you guys really do get along well. Most fisherman in the area here will harp on you bringing anything that loud right up to the edge (They say the noise scares the fishies off)... Don't know how much truth to it.

But, nice catch!

I really need to go fishing soon. I fished a lot before I got hooked on bike riding. Sometimes as I'm riding past a pond I can hear the bass hiding under a log and laughing at me.

I sometimes combine the two: strap a pack rod and box of lures to the bike and hit the riverside bike paths, stopping where no one in a car, truck or SUV can follow. It's a great way to spend a day, and if the fish aren't co-operating you can always turn the outing into a bike ride.
And by the way, bigbadwulf, that's a lovely story. I have a hard time understanding hostility among outdoor users. A little tolerance, co-operation and plain friendliness can resolve a lot of conflicting needs.

Bikes: confidential infromation that I don't even share with my wife

You caught a delicious bass! (stealing a line from Napoleon Dynamite) I spent the weekend along the Allegheny River riding big hills and fishing with my brother. The riding went much better than the fishing. A cold front passed through Saturday evening shutting down the smallmouth and walleye although my brother and I each caught a few small ones each day. Monday was a glorious day to fish if you enjoy being on the water and not catching fish. The Allegheny Valley Justus Trail runs along the river and I could hear the cyclist talking even though they were shrouded by the dense trees while canoes and kayaks passed me on the river. Monday's must offer women's day discounts as the paddlers were mostly female groups.

When I was a kid (about 11 or 12) we used to ride our bikes (Schwinn Stingrays/bananna seat) to the Texaco resevoir; a small lake or large pond, depending on the way you want to look at it. Holding rod-and-reel in one hand and tackle box in the other we rode approximately five miles to get there. We would catch a stringer full of sun-perch, bring em home and my Mom would fry them up for us. Rideing home with that stinger of fish is one good memory.
