Based on your description- the crank arm is done. If you can "spin" the pedal wrench, the pedal should be loose enough to pop off with a punch of some sort. It is likely that you are going to have to replace the crank arm anyways so I would just go to your lbs and have one ordered. They can do this fairly easy through qbp. It is lucky this happened to the left side.
