I am trying to remove the left pedal on a two year old bike that I will be giving away soon (pedals are quite expensive Axioms). The left pedal will not come off although I can spin the pedal wrench fairly easily in both directions. I'm wondering if whoever put it on crossthreaded, but it appears to be threaded on straight. I removed the right pedal already and have confirmed that it is actually the right pedal. Right now I am assuming that if I do manage to remove the pedal, it will be unsuitable for putting on a new bike and that the threads on the crank arm will be stripped.

And yes, I know left pedal is reverse thread.

Based on your description- the crank arm is done. If you can "spin" the pedal wrench, the pedal should be loose enough to pop off with a punch of some sort. It is likely that you are going to have to replace the crank arm anyways so I would just go to your lbs and have one ordered. They can do this fairly easy through qbp. It is lucky this happened to the left side.

Thanks Bad. I had figured the crank arm was wrecked. I can tighten the pedal back up (it tightens up, just doesn't want to come off) and leave it the way it is, as I'm just going to be giving the bike away. I'll let the new owner know the arm needs replacing though.

the arm hole can be enlarged and a heli-coil put in. an h-c is a double-threaded (inside and outside) thing that kinda sorta looks like a hollow bolt.
an lbs should be able to do this.

That cab be fixed, but u ned to find a good shop to do it, as kaouse says, as for taking the pedal out, I would just put the arm in a vice and put it in the back with a hammer or something just to pull it out.
