Another Canadian bike - the Norco Ceres - looks very good to me. It's steel, with hydraulic disc brakes, a Gates Belt Drive, and a Shimano 8. If I had an LBS that sold them, I would be thinking about picking up one of them, and then upgrading to a Shimano 11 sometime later.
