Tried it a little last year. I started driving to the beginning of the local MUP and start out in daylight but end in darkness. I have one headlight and no rear( I know I should get one). One thing is the MUP is "closed" after dark but ...oh well. There is nobody on it and it was peaceful riding. The MUP is all in wooded areas and zero houses anywhere...to be honest could be a little scary for some.
I will not ride on the road however in the dark, seems too dangerous to me.
I do love riding the road too over any MUP but I think I will continue this plan into the near future as it is starting to get dark earlier now.
One other thing though...when I was riding last year it was freezing and I learned all about how to dress for that...way too involved as well but has to be done.
