As a guy who repairs a lot of aluminum frames, I should mention there is a shocking amount of "walmart" in some of the "most loved" cycle brands. Importing and selling these frames is extremely lucrative. Profits are quickly returned to development and improvement. The big brands have certainly noticed and are doing all they can to eliminate unneeded operations to the production cycle. There are some very expensive frames available that have a lot in common with these products.
