We deserve more and better photos -- if you're just going to tease, that's not very nice.
To hijack this thread just a bit: I had some early Weyless hubs with cartridge bearings and the bearings did have a very thin C-clip that held the seals in place. I left the bearings installed and managed to pry out the C-clips, remove the seals (which were not the usual rubber-coated spring steel seen on modern cart bearings, these were a phenolic fiber!) then just flush and dry and re-grease. It took care and some very thin blades to get those C-clips out, but once lubed, the bearings are smooth as silk.
