Did your forks have a number on the steerer?
Ah, cool, frame brothers... The fork is stamped "Jian Sheng" on the steerer. Did yours come with a similar fork? Do you have any photos? Where was it purchased?

So, looking for "rifling" this is 5 (or 6) small reinforcements in the base of the steerer, look up the fork bottom with a flashlight...is probably moot. Also 5 would be an indication of a Columbus fork, which this almost certainly ain't. But there might be something stamped on the outside of the steerer (if you remove the fork).
27 seatpost is a good sign for some kind of quality tubing, but could be one of several brands...vague notion that it might be Japanese, but really...
I got nuthin' for this one.
Thanks all for the help, a Japanese frame would be most desirable, and I received similar information in the FGSS boards. I guess I should just call it a "mystery Japanese frame" from now on
