Winter has arrived. The oppressive, abusive heat and humidity have gone, and we're left with five months of beautiful weather. Today I was out for 8 hours and never took off my base layer. I forced myself to stop 3 times, whether I felt like it or not. This was a good thing.
Breakfast, at 30 miles out.

Then 20 miles of poor quality chip and seal,

leading to the North coast, at Telchac Puerto.

I stopped at Xcambo ruins for lunch, at mile 56. It was so idyllic there, I had to tear myself away.

I became enchanted, watching these least sandpipers, sitting in the sun, in the stone quiet of this spot.

Tri-colored heron in the foreground, and if you really squint you can see a very pale flamingo further back.

I stopped under an overpass, at mile 83, for my final sandwich break. I had an extreme case of foot burn coming in, so sat there shoeless for a good long while. Not five minutes out from this final break, my back tire flatted. Why is it always the rear? Anyway, I came in feeling fairly fresh, relative to my past efforts.
