I want to add...you look on eBay or even here and see what holds it value. The plastic stuff is going to be like a new car where the second you pull out of the dealership it's value drops significantly. Now a nice handbuilt bike will hold or increase it's value. You could get a really nice vintage(and vintage doesn't have to mean dated or slow) race frame and build it up with current parts. Took a look through this thread(it'll take your awhile since it's pretty long but definitely worth it) and it may change your view. You'll see why people still ride these old bikes or why they still pull a nice premium and in such demand. Take a look in the Classic and Vintage forum here and look through the classified section.
