Shifting is not a problem with lobster gloves or with mittens. Something with a decent wind shell works well. I use PI lobster gloves with shell -- circa 1991 or so -- for temps under 35. I've used them when temps have been in the teens and they are fine. My ski mittens are also good. You might think about nordic skiing gloves.
