Yeah. Big issue for some, no big deal to others. Personally I like to have a smart phone along, but turned off 99+% of the time. I usually do a short journal entry and a short call home daily using the phone. I find that invaluable in keeping the peace on the home front. I find that the battery lasts pretty long with that mode of operation, and opportunities to charge are frequent enough to be a non-issue.
I do longer journal updates and upload pictures if I happen to have access to a computer at a library, motel, or host's home. If not I don't worry about it.
Oh and I also take a camera, with a couple batteries and a tiny aftermarket charger. Like the phone it needs relatively infrequent charging, and opportunities to charge are frequent enough with no real effort.
