I put an SRAM chain on my 9 speed Campy Veloce/Daytona bike this past summer. Works just fine. Whether an actual Campy chain would shift better or not, I'm not sure.
I don't think mixing the cassette and derailleurs would work well due to spacing differences. Haven't tried that grand experiment, though.
